Gum Recession Treatment

gum recession treatment

Dr. Blackenburg explains every aspect of treatment in easy-to-understand terms.

Gum recession is an important issue to address. It has a significant negative impact on oral health and the appearance of a person’s smile. It leaves tooth roots exposed to damage and decay, and it can cause root sensitivity and bone loss.

Many people think that once gum recession has occurred, nothing can be done to repair the gum and restore a healthy gumline, but this is not the case. With gum grafting treatment, gums can be fully restored.

As a periodontist, Dr. Blackenburg is a highly trained specialist in the treatment of the gums. He expertly repairs and corrects receded gums and prevents future gum recession from occurring.

Minimally Invasive Treatment

Dr. Blackenburg uses several techniques to make gum recession treatment as minimally invasive as possible. In many cases, he is able to use donated gum tissue so that no tissue has to be harvested from your own mouth. In addition, he can often use a special “tunneling” technique that requires only a minimal incision into the gum tissue to provide tissue to cover your exposed roots.

Dr. Blackenburg also analyzes the cause of the recession to prevent it from recurring. Adding the proper amount of gum tissue to the gumline is often enough to prevent further recession, but there can be other factors as well. If there is a muscle pulling too strongly on the gums, he corrects this so the recession doesn’t return in the future.
